Experience The Unique Samoan Culture
The Samoan culture and way of life is over 3000 years old and you will no doubt be introduced to this complex cultural code during your visit to Samoa.
Fa'a Samoa is a guideline for every Samoan on how to lead their lives by celebrating and embracing traditional values, their culture and environment. It is an integral part of Samoan life, evident in the time-honoured traditions, warm hospitality, as well as the cultural practices and customs of the Samoan people.
Fa’a Samoa has three key structural elements to it – the matai (chiefs), aiga (extended family), and the church.
Samoans follow their culture in many ways. Most visit church at least once or twice a week and Sunday is a sacred day for church and family and normally a traditional family meal called. Some are also involved in traditional Samoan dance and celebrations of their culture through Fia Fia nights
These shows are a display of the Samoan traditional dancing and fireshows. Most of the larger hotels have weekly Fia Fia shows and we can provide you with a weekly list of shows on island. A traditional Samoan buffet is served and the cost includes food and the show.
Apia is the capital of Samoa. It is also the home of the handicraft markets, the daily fish market and the fresh local fruit & vegetable markets. These are great places to try local cuisine - like fresh fish and chips, local island fruits, fresh smoothies, a freshly made pork bun or an ice cold niu!
Maybe try a traditional Samoan Fofo massage at Touch of Samoa
Tai's Native Experience also comes highly recommended and the award winning tour guide Chief Tai will surely make your island tour a day to remember - https://www.facebook.com/samoasights/
There is a regular show put on at the Samoa Travel Authority main fale located near the Clock Tower especially for visitors to Samoa on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 10.00am. This is a free display of Samoan dancing, singing and other cultural treats.
The Robert Louis Stevenson Museum is also a place soaked in history and is the original house of the English author. Tours of the house last about 30 mins and you can also enjoy the stunning and perfectly manicured surrounding gardens. Maybe even pick up a copy of Treasure Island from their gift shop.
There is always something going on, a jazz festival, Oka festival, food show or other celebration so be sure to check out Samoa Travel Authority for the latest news before your visit and check our blog.
